I’ve long used the Windows personal proxy filter called Proxomitron. For years it’s been making my browsing experience bearable as advertisers have been trying to make it unbearable. IE, Netscape or Mozilla, it doesn’t matter — Proxomitron would kill pop-ups and filter embedded ads. However, the default filters have been getting less effective, particularly to javascripe “document.write”s. Then along came JD with JDlist — a new ruleset for Proxomitron. I’ve been using the advanced mode for a week or so now and I must say it’s very effective. Not only is it filtering out more ads again, but there’s a lot less non-ad stuff being killed. I strongly recommend this to all Windows users, regardless of browser.
Proxomitron has been abandoned by its original author. I don’t think anyone is working on the core software anymore.
I suggest that anyone willing to learn how to use Proxomitron should consider a project that is under active development. For example, Privoxy is free/open source and is maintained at sourceforge.net.
Goes it remove google ads?
ad free gadget madness!
😉
We’re not that bad. If you were to strip all the ads from some sites I won’t mention, there would be no content left at all.
Not bad at all! its just funny that a site with any ads (descrete as they may be) is promoting an ad removal system! Thats all!
I’m also a proxomitron fan from the Old School. Unfortunately, my filters have become less and less useful as time has passed. I fear it may finally be time to give up the faithful friend. JD’s list seems to be offline thesedays. I’m wondering – what are you using now?
Thanks in advance!
