WorldGate Communications thinks that merely talking on the phone is not enough, so they’ve created the Ojo Personal Video Phone (Ojo means “eye” in Spanish.) Supposedly the Ojo can transmit video at 30 frames per second video over data rates as low as 110 Kbps. Motorola is planning to distribute the Ojo, and Motorola and WorldGate will begin field tests of the product this year. Can you see yourself carrying this thing around? We can just imagine the advertising…
“Can you see me now? Good! Do I look ridiculous carrying this phone? Good!”

UPDATE: We stand corrected, this phone is not intended to be mobile, but is intended for home use over broadband. Fortunately, this will actually increase how foolish you’ll look when you carry one around outside. We’re all for looking geeky-foolish in public.

It’s not meant to be portable. It’s for home use, to be connected to your broadband modem.
