I’ve been using my Nokia 770 tablet for the past week, and I have to say I am really impressed. Nokia has a winning concept on their hands with the 770, a device designed strictly for the activities you do most on the Net: check news, read & reply to email, browse, and listen to streaming audio. The display is nice and bright, and while I have yet to encode my own video for it the Ice Age trailer that comes preloaded plays fairly well. You can switch your web browsing mode from windowed to full with the push of a button, and more and more cool apps are being ported to the Maemo Linux platform (which the 770 runs on) everyday. On the downside sporadic reboots do occur from time to time, and Bluetooth phone connectivity does require more setup than the average end-user will be able to handle. All in all if you like instant access to your news, email, ShoutCast streams, and the web the Nokia 770 will float your boat. A VOIP client is coming too, which will make the 770 even sweeter. The wide & colorful touchscreen is perfect for games, and the possibility of online gaming is very exciting. The biggest mystery about the 770? How to assemble the damn desk stand! Nowhere on Nokia’s site or in the manual does it explain how the two separate little legs should be able to support it – here is where I finally found the answer.
