For some reason, McDonalds thinks they need to offer Wi-Fi hotspots in their restaurants. The initial price plan looks like US$2.95 for 2 hours or $29.95/month unlimited, and some sort of ‘roaming’ plan to share minutes with other Wi-Fi providers. My initial thought is that more hotspots at restaurants is a cool idea, then I try to remember the last time I spent more than 10 minutes in a McDonalds. Truth is, it’s not the kind of place that I’d ever want to hang out. I know the playground is cool and all, but let’s be a little realistic here.
When my kids were between 4 and 8, they would insist on going to McDonald’s, mostly to play for about 2 hours on the play structure (the toys with the food were also a selling point). My wife and I would grimace and try to find the least worst food, and hang out reading the NY Times while the kids ran amuck. We would have paid for WiFi, I can tell you.
