For you VoIP nuts out there, Pulver Innovations brings you the WiSIP phone. It’s a new twist on cordless phones, really, being WiFi-based instead of the regular old RF 2.4GHz or whatever. It’s a neat idea (other than being butt-ugly) and in an environment blanketed by WiFi, it could be really useful. For people like me, it would basically be another option for cordless phones. That is, at least until I spied the US$249 pricetag. It’s a bit steep for a cordless phone.
On the other hand, Motorola has announced (and received FCC approval for) the CN620. It’s a WiFi-based phone that will switch (for certain call types) automatically to GSM when out of range of the wireless access point. Quad band GSM and 802.11a/b/g… just the kind of thing that companies moving to enterprise-wide VoIP would be looking for.

Update 07/06/2004
I requested more information from Nokia about the CN620, since I could not find anything with Google or on their corporate site. I received a response from the marketing manager of their Enterprise Seamless Mobility group that directed me to the Motorola WLAN Seamless Voice and Data Solutions site and was told that more information will be released later this month. I’ll relay the information here as I get it.
