U.S. company Foster-Miller has been building bomb-squad robots for some time, but recently they have been contracted by the U.S. military to created remotely controlled, heavily armed robots for use in hostile territory. The TALON or SWORDS robot, pictured above, is the result.
TALON is small, light and tough — From the Foster-Miller web site: “One was blown off the roof of a Humvee in Iraq recently while the Humvee was crossing a bridge over a river. TALON flew off the bridge and plunged into the river below. Soldiers later used its operator control unit to drive the robot back out of the river and up onto the bank so they could retrieve it.” Nice.
It won’t be long at all before SkyNet is really operational. I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords.
