PS3 Versus Xbox 360: Which Has The Quietest Fan?

Ed Steele March 24, 2007 2

For my own amusement I’ve put together a totally unscientific analysis of which console has the quietest fan. The results are interesting to say the least. While the winner for quietest fan might not surprise you, how loud the other console’s fan is might.

UPDATE: Many of you have said that this test wasn’t performed properly, and that both consoles should have games running to get a proper noise level. The PS3 fan runs just as quietly playing games as it does at the dashboard, however I will post a follow up video testing both consoles playing games for proper comparison.
Follow up video has been posted – enjoy!

@huddy
What are you talking about they posted a follow-up video and it was just as loud RTFA

huddy says:

Why are people so stupidly biased towards the PS3. Of course it’s going to be quieter, you didn’t perform a like-for-like test. Why did you not play a game on the PS3 and only go to the dashboard? If you go to the dashboard on the 360 it is really quiet. The fans only kick in when you play games.
