GMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual drive in the Windows Explorer, allowing you to use your Google GMail account as a storage medium. There had already been a GMailFS for linux for quite some time (take a google search).
Also, it’s pretty clear that Google keeps an eye on open source production related to their stuff (gmail, etc.); it looks like they kinda stole the systrey program from a few others I had tried out. But, who knows?
With GMailFS (linux), people had said there’s nothing in particular in the user agreement stating that that type of usage. I believe that Google is all about innovation, and they could most definately stop such usage if they deem it necessary.
this has been out for a little bit now, the problem is that gmail will not allow attachments bigger than 10 megs (encoded), so you can not upload file bigger than that. also gmail does not like mp3 files nor do they like zip files.- go figure
no mp3’s? really? I have a few albums sitting in my sent folder, maybe I should delete them..
It’s not really about the ability to store stuff on gmail – you can do that by emailing it to yourself: this extension emulates that; The real point is how happy will Google be about having copyrighted material stored in your gmail account. I’m sure that there are plenty of ways they could shut down your account if they wanted to 🙂
