Salling Clicker is remote control software for your Symbian-based smartphones from Nokia, Siemens, and Sony Ericsson that allows you to remotely control your Macintosh computer. It features a “Proximity sensor” and activity awareness, and allows you to remotely control iTunes, Keynote, PowerPoint, and DVD Player! It is also ultra-extensible via AppleScript, allowing you to control just about any function imaginable on your Bluetooth-enabled Mac. Cool! Hopefully my next laptop will be a Powerbook, any Mac users out there use this software? If so, how do you like it?

Joost showed me this morning before he went to work.
That’s really great!!! It really works! (he has a Sony Ericsson T610 and an Apple iBook)
(And I thought using my GB as a TV remote control was cool, tssk tssk.)

A friend of a friend of mine uses his Powerbook and mobile phone with this software to perform business presentations with Powerpoint. It allows him to present to customers and move about the room using his phone as a wireless remote.

I was actually going to make this my first real post, but I guess I’ll have to be satisfied saying, yes, I have seen this in action, and yes, it’s really cool.
There are a couple of cool things about this:
    1. This solution is great because it cuts down on the number of things you have to carry around. PowerBooks have built-in Bluetooth support, so don’t have to bring along a Bluetooth adapter. You likely already have your cell phone, so you’re presentation-ready at all times.
    2. Sailing Clicker gets your notes from the PowerPoint presentation and shows them on your phone screen while you’re talking. Finally, you have instant access to your important “I can’t remember why I put this slide in here. Breeze through it and hope there are no questions” notes in PowerPoint or Keynote. Make it Keynote. Keynote’s cooler.

I find it more of a fun/geeky tool than totally useful, though it is starting to become more practical — see below.
It’s the proximity stuff I love most. iChat/iTunes is open all the time and to have ‘clicker’ change my iChat status and pause/play iTunes based on whether I’m in the same room as my powerbook is great. It will also change my status and pause my music if I take/make a call as well.
That is cool, but I can live without it. The more practical side is the additional scripts you can install. ProximitySync being just one. It will automatically use iSync to sync between address book/iCal when you’re near, keeping you bang up to date every day.

It’s a great software, as said previously any PowerBook comes with Bluetooth and as most of us have a celphone it’s the perfect link between both why :
    – Manage my keynote or Powerpoint presentation super easily, no need for an extra (and most of the time expensive) remote control plus as said before, it’s brings you interesting informations back so it’s the ultimate presentation remote
    – The proximity sensor thing is waaaaay cool, there’s an endless bunch of possibilites with that (imagine home automation 😉 but for now, I just love when I come back to my desk with my mac telling my hi and welcome back and starts to play some music directly and waking up from sleep (and with bluetooth being around 10m it’s just the fine distance, no time to wait, you arrive at your desk and everything is ready)
    – And last but not leas, the apple script support makes it really worth for anybody with a little imagination
    – Oops, one more, not it also work with Palm
