Do you remember DIVX? I’m not talking about DivX, the avi codec, I’m talking about the brilliant idea that Circuit City had back in 1999 to make DVDs that you could only watch a certain number of times before they would become unreadable. It’s the idea that Motley Fool called “profoundly stupid” and that died an embarrassingly quick death. You remember that now? Well, apparently some people have forgotten; FlexPlay has introduced EZ-D, a DVD that has a 48-hour viewing window. Oh yeah, this has been done before, too. The difference with this new profoundly stupid idea is that it has the backing of Disney, who owns half the freakin’ world and six major studios, and GE, who has some clout as well.
