Nintendo of America has revealed their wireless plans for the US that will allow DS users to play games wirelessly with users all over the world. The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will go online on November 14th, and these titles will support Internet play:
- Mario Kart DS
- Animal Crossing: Wild World
- Metroid Prime Hunters
The service will be free to Nintendo DS owners, requiring no additional charge to play supported games over the internet. If you have a wireless network already you will be able to go online with your DS with minimal setup, and if you don’t have wireless Nintendo’s got you covered with the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector (sold seperately.)
NOA is also planning to set up thousands of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection hotspots all over the US, and will soon spill the dirt on where and how players can link up via these hotspots. SWEET! What’s good about this is Nintendo is finally getting online play in gear – what’s not so good is that the DS can’t just connect to any wireless network. (Why require “minimal setup” to connect to any wireless hotspot, Nintendo?)
