You have no idea how often we send out SG-1 searching for news about “Godzilla Final Wars”…well, fellow G-Graspers rejoice! SG-1 detected earlier today that Sony has finally given a date for when we can expect Godzilla Final Wars on DVD: December 13th. If you are a desperate G freak like me, you can pre-order your copy on Amazon today. Final Wars is allegedly the last G movie and was directed by Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus, Alive) with Industrial Lights & Magic handling special effects. Why Sony didn’t release Final Wars in theaters here in the US is a mystery to me. I mean, all five of us hardcore fans would have gone to see it at least ten times, right?
UPDATE: I’ve never been more disappointed in a G film as I was with this one. The director focuses on human hand-to-hand fights for several minutes, while monster battles are over in literally seconds. The direction is frenetic and certain scenes make you feel like you’ve had way too much Red Bull to drink. I can’t recommend this film to anyone, and I can’t believe Toho let the big guy end his film career with this garbage. Here’s hoping he’ll be back soon to erase the bad memory of this film from my mind.
