The trailer for “The Last Guardian,” the third game in the Ico series was shown at E3 this year and blew our minds – not just because we’re huge fanboys of this fantasy universe, but also because the in-game graphics look AMAZING. Wait a minute… don’t tell us you never played “Ico” or “Shadow of the Colossus” on the PS2? Both games are genuine works of art each in their own right. Go, now to your local game store and pickup up used copies of each, finish them, then please come back and keep reading.
Welcome back! We’re glad you agree that Fumito Ueda and Team Ico, creators of both “Ico” and “SOTC” are freakin’ geniuses and should be worshiped as the visionaries they are. “The Last Guardian” appears to combine the mechanics of both “Ico” and “Shadow of the Colossus” into one game. In “Ico” you lead the queen’s daughter, Yorda about an expansive castle and in “Shadow” you slay giant monster guardians to revive a young girl. We can’t think of anything better than having a giant CG kirin or gryphon/griffin to have as your pet and can hardly wait! (Don’t just take our word for it – IGN calls the first two games “some of the finest games to be created for the PlayStation 2. The Last Guardian is sure to be one of the finest games for Sony’s current-gen hardware.”)
