Will You PSP Go?

June 01, 2009 at 08:56 PM in Sony PSP

The June issue of Qore was leaked early and contains a promotional video for the new PSP Go. We've been salivating over the PSP since before it was released and could hardly wait to see what Sony had in store for this latest hardware revision:

    What the PSP Go! has

  • 3.8-inch display
  • 43 percent lighter (than PSP-3000)
  • 16GB of Flash storage
  • Memory Stick Micro slot
  • Bluetooth
  • PlayStation Network support (movie and TV rentals / purchases)
  • PS3 Integration

Sorry, but color us unimpressed. We feel that Sony needs to step it up a notch; here is a small list of what the PSP Go is lacking that its competitors already have:

What the PSP Go! does not have
  • Touchscreen
  • Camera
  • GPS
  • TV tuner
  • HD FM or FM radio tuner

Does the PSP Go need a camera, a touchscreen, or a built-in GPS? The iPhone and DSi both have built-in cameras and innovative software to make extra use of them, and the Zune has had a built-in FM tuner from the "get go." Seeing that Sony has already developed some of these great PSP accessories already we're not sure why they aren't packing them into the new PSP Go. The PSP "must live on" due to Sony's 10 year product cycle, and the original PSP was released in 2005. (Ten years is a long time to eek out of a handheld device, we're really, REALLY hoping this doesn't mean we have to wait until 2015 for the PSPtew.)

Well i really dont see much improvement for the psp in this new model. The fact there's no umd drive means that everyone that has there library of games on umd's is out of luck. Iv heard that sony is figuring out a way to get your umds on the psp go by having some way to verify that you have the umd and lets u download it from the ps store. Of course thats unlikely so yeah id rather have a umd cause i really dont download many games at all on my psp 3000. For people who download alot, thats a great improvement for you. all sony really did was slap a slider on a smaller screen, put psp buttons on it, forget to add the 2nd joystick AGAIN, rip of the umd drive, and add bluetooth and an internal hard drive and say its the PSP GOOOOO. so yeah i hope that they dont continue download only psps in the future cause that makes buying used games from gamestop and eb games entirely useless.
