Like most of my fellow gadget maniacs, I'm very drawn to cool new robotic toys. The new Segatoys Dream Cat stands over a foot tall, weighs 4.5 pounds and five touch sensors hidden in various places. She can blink, move her mouth and neck, and purr and meow and hiss if you pull her tail. When left alone she'll curl up into a ball, snore and eventually fall asleep (much like Mario in Super Mario 64.)
The question you have to ask yourself (and the one I'm also struggling with) is is this cool new feline robot worth $139 for the limited entertainment you will get out of it? All of my previous robotic pets are now living on a dark shelf in my closet...do they want a new friend that will eventually just gather dust? And the obvious answer is "why yes, I think they do."
