Skype has now promised free VoIP to landline calls for residents of US and Canada till the years end. This allows for free phone calls through their service for calls made within the US & Canada. Most likely a promotion based move this free trial is trying to attract new customers in the long run. Well they've gotten me to try it out and so far I love it so its working. All that you need is a relatively fast internet connection, the free Skype software and a microphone. Also this service is as far as I can tell anonymous in that caller id picks up 1234567 as your phone number (not that it matters or anything *wink*). So get it while you can and capatilize off the free phone service.

UPDATE: Further reading into this I have learned it's actually called "SkypeOut" and the trial is guranteed till the end of 2006 but may extend beyond that.
