Serenity: Joss Whedon's Firefly Movie (aka "You Can't Take The Sky From Me")

Those of you who know me know that while I have a "gibbering fanboy madness" about gadgets, movies, and electronic gear, that it is once in a blue wonder that my eyes tear and I get truly, madly excited about something new. "Firefly" the TV series isn't new, as a matter of fact the last time "Firefly" aired was three years ago or so. FOX (aka "The Alliance") killed the best science-fiction television series of this century without even giving it a chance. (They killed "Space, Above & Beyond" at the end of last century without giving it a chance either.)

"Firefly" was the first production to make extensive use of CGI sequences designed to look like footage filmed with handheld cameras, with digital zoom, shake, pans, and manual focusing. It also had intense and interesting characters, super smart & funny dialogue:

Zoƫ: "Preacher...don't the Bible have some pretty specific things to say about killing?"

Shepherd Book: "Quite specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps."

and incredible special effects. It's an amazing series and I can't recommend it enough. That being said, Joss Whedon realized what a "lousy bunch of no-goods" the people who killed his TV show were, and approached Universal with the idea of a Firefly movie. Universal bit, and the name of the movie is "Serenity."

I'm more excited about this movie than I am about Episode III, and that's saying alot. Do yourself a favor and pick up the Firefly DVD's, then go see Serenity on September 30th. I'll be there at the first show, opening day for this one. And no power in the 'verse can stop me.
