GadgetMadness: We find the coolest gadgets first

I'm a console-launch maniac - my first "Midnight Launch" was the original Sony Playstation on September 29th, 1995 (which I believe was the first console to have a midnight launch.) I posted in Decemeber how you could pre-order your PSP, and I have a few tips to share with you for PSP Day:

• If you didn't pre-order your games, you should go now and pick up the games you want. There were only 4 copies of Untold Legends at my store (I switched out Metal Gear: Acid for Untold Legends.) The last thing you want is to mess with on PSP Day is fighting for games when the store opens.
• If you pre-ordered your games, I'd still suggest picking them up today if you can. If the store's pre-order list was shorted, you can make sure you aren't the one shorted. :)
• Pay for your system today, and keep the receipt. This will help the line in the store move quickly tomorrow, and get you in and out quickly. (Also, you won't have to worry about having a large wad of cash with you so late at night.)
• Pick up the accessories you want today. Tomorrow is going to be a mad rush for accessories everywhere (even though most of them are crap). I personally would only recommend getting the Pelican Screen Shield, the Nyko Aluminium Screen Armor, and/or the Hori protective screen filters. Just remember that 90% of the launch cases/accessory kits are junk. Buy a screen protector to keep your screen safe until the Logitech accessories come out on 4/14, then spend your money on the quality stuff.
• Which leads me to the USB Data Cable. For heaven's sake, don't buy one - it's a $10 rip off. You probably already have one of these cables - this is a standard USB cable for MP3 players, digital cameras, external mini USB drives, even Blackberry's use these cables. Pick one up cheap as a standard USB cable if you need to, but don't spend the extra cash on a branded (and expensive) Sony PSP Accessory.

I visited several stores today - EBX, Gamestop, Target, Best Buy, and Circuit City. All of them were fully stocked with PSP games and accessories for sale. You can be sure that as of this article post time tomorrow, they will all be sold out. Get the drop early, so you can get the gear you want, word.

What's the picture from? I had planned a review of the Pelican Screen Shield and a few other PSP accessories, and since I didn't have a PSP I used a block of hard cheddar cut to PSP size. (The knife was to show what could happen if you didn't have a screen protector.) Now that the PSP is almost here, if I get time I'll reshoot the review and just use my real PSP. :)

UPDATE: The penalty if stores are caught selling a PSP system early (according to our sources) is to have their supply chain cut off from Sony completely, so don't even ask. They simply can't and won't sell the systems early. The games and accessories are without restriction, but not the systems themselves.
