And It Went Wherever I Did Go

Grocery stores in Japan have been using 2d barcodes for linking consumers with product information for a while now. In a new twist, a subsidiary of DoCoMo has developed a system whereby a consumer in a market can point their camera phone at a barcode on a fish and retrieve information about the time and location that the fish was caught as well as the individual who caught it. The technology behind it is cool (though nothing new), but I'm not sure I want that kind of transparency in my supply chain; I don't necessarily want to know who's been handling my food.
