Nintendo 3DS Battery Life Tips

Does the battery life on your 3DS suck? I just sat down to fire up my 3DS to load the new Netflix update and was greeted by an unresponsive black screen and a drained battery. Many of you, like me, remember the good old days where you could leave your DSi lid closed for months at a time to re-open and start playing again, no problem. Here are a few tips to help you…er..me get better battery life from your 3DS:

  1. Get a  Nyko Power Pak+ and double your battery time.
  2. Turn the 3D slider down or off on non-3D games.
  3. Turn wireless and StreetPass off.
  4. Use headphones – the speaker uses battery life too
  5. Hold down the power button and select “Power Off” instead of just closing the lid.

So why is the battery life so bad on the 3DS? 3D graphics and WiFi are very battery intensive and perhaps Nintendo expected consumers would be happy with 3-5 hours of battery life per charge. One last suggestion – while there are replacement lithium-ion battery kits out there that claim to enhance battery life on the 3DS, we couldn’t track one down that had consistent positive reviews. That being said, replace the built-in battery at your own risk!
