So you’ve got your Playstation 3, a copy of Resistance: Fall Of Man and you’re all setup to go multiplayer online. The only thing missing is a wireless headset to chat with your team right? The Playstation 3 uses Bluetooth for its wireless controllers which got me to thinking…what about a Bluetooth headset? Turns out you can pair ANY Bluetooth Headset with your PS3 for voice chat, here’s how.

Turn on your Playstation 3, and from the main menu go to Settings – Accessory Settings – Register Bluetooth Device
You will be presented with two options:
Register BD Remote Control
Register Headset/Microphone/Headphones

Select Register Headset… and put your Bluetooth headset into pairing mode. On your PS3 select Start Scanning
Select your device and enter your pairing code. In most cases for audio devices the default pairing code is “0000”
Now on your PS3, go to Audio Device Settings and change your “Input Device” and “Output Device” to your Bluetooth headset name. Try speaking and watch your “Mic Level” move!
While playing Resistance: Fall Of Man you can voice chat with other players by pressing and holding down L3. I use the Plantronics Pulsar 590 Bluetooth Stereo Headset&nbsp PlayStation 3 Bluetooth Headset 2.0 with my phone, for Bluetooth audio on my laptop, and now for voice chat on my PS3. The Plantronics 590 allows for up to eight device pairings and it works flawlessly with the PS3 – I was even able seamlessly answer an incoming cell phone call and then switch back to PS3 voice chat. :)While playing Resistance I only came across one other person using a Bluetooth headset for voice chat, and he so I wanted to get the word out.

does this headset allow you to hear all of the sound effects in the background while you are chatting with your team? If its not default to do that how do you change your settings for it?

    Hello
I have the Plantronics Pulsar 590A and i connected it with Bluetooth to my PS3.
The microphone is working fine! But when i play Call Of Duty 4, I hear only my chat on the headset, and the normal gunfire sounds, with the TV boxes. I would LOVE to have the sounds of COD4 on my headphone instead of my TV. Any suggestion? Help appreciated!
    Greetings Guus

For those of you who have a Plantronics (220,230,320,330,340,350,650,665)headset, the headset needs to be in pairing mode for the PS3 to find it. To do this first switch off the headset, wait a few secs and then power the headset back on only don’t release the power button until the headset light starts to flash Blue/Red. Once it is in pairing mode you can go the PS3 Bluetooth setup and search for device. The PS3 only allows voice Chat and not music or game sound. Actual game audio is played through your speakers.
I hope at some point that Sony will allow both Game sound and Voice to be sent via BT.
Cutting out of BT headsets are normally a sign of low battery, the signal then drops due to insufficient power to maintain the connection. I have also heard that there are quite a lot of counterfeit Motorola headsets out there , these cause all sorts of audio problems. Also try to have the headset on the same side as the console so as to not have your head blocking the signal to the console.
If you still have problems setting the BT headset up you can go to the following links to get step by step info.

The best most comprehensive instructions and compatibility list i have found to date.

I see that my headset is connected and see others talking but I can’t hear them and they can”t hear me. Do you know what I am doing wrong? Also, is there a button you need to press to talk in the game?

Can you use 2 headsets in one PS3 console?
    Thanks!

  34. Lanfear May 8, 2009 at 10:14 pm -

I did the same with with my motorola H710, and it works like a charm. However, I find it easiest to buy the stock headset for the PS3. The charger is handy, and using the same headset for my cell and PS3 can lead to battery drain issues.

  35. Craig June 4, 2009 at 9:28 am -

My dad has gone on holiday and has forgotten his handset. I suggested, instead of buying another hardset, to buy a PS3 BD remote.
Ans by pressing the PS button / Enter it should pair with the console? Didn’t work.
When I bought mine I never had any issues with having to enter the accessories/settings menu. I just inserted batteries and off I went!
Anybody know if he’s flogging a dead horse, and will have to accept that the only way he’ll be able to pair the new device is by using the existing handset to access the relevent menus(50 miles away at home)?

using Samsung blue tooth earpiece ( for mboile phone) – to register – make sure bt device is charged up fully, then switch off. Then hold down on/off switch on bt device until you get a steady blue light – you are now in pairing mode – then scan. Once completed – go to audio settings and edit input and output to show the samsung bt device. easy!

Not every bluetooth headset works for a ps3 i just bought one from walmart and it would not pair with my ps3 but it will psir iwth my phone i called sony and they told me that not all bluetooths work basically dwpends on the brand of them. For your best bet try to find one on ebay or sumting like that that is made for the ps3. i know what some people are saying that every bluetooth headset wors. But it is complete bs this is my second try at trying one. And im just gonna buy one that is made for the ps3. I know hty are more expensive than others. that is why i went with the other 2 ones i bought brand was jabra and platronics. I’m just tired of trying to find a cheaper one that works. They have one that is 35 buck at walmart that does work with the ps3 it is in the gaming aisle. Sorry to tell you people this cause trust me i dont wanna buy such a expensive one but it is what it is so yea

Do you have to delete an existing Bluetooth to register a new one? My old BT broke.

  65. kenny May 18, 2011 at 12:51 am -

how do i get my bluetooth headset into pairing mode?

  66. Bucksatan May 28, 2011 at 2:43 am -

    @reganci
Go to audio options or device settings. I forget which one. Then you hit options or the triangle button and it brings up all devices. There is a delete option so highlight it, triangle, delete. It’s like the “forget” function on a phone. That gets rid of the old. Go thru the set up for your new one and your good to go man. Hope this helps.

Hi, I recently bought a bluetooth headset know as H200. I set it up correctly, but whenever I talk into it, the bar does not rise in the audio settings.

  68. tyler July 3, 2011 at 8:54 am -

for the people who keep on saying that it wont pair up, you guys need to manualy put the bluetooth set into pairing mode(should say how to do this in the headsets manual). I have a JAWBONE headset.
