Most of our regular readers probably know that I am a “webcam whore.” By this I don’t mean I strip in front of the camera (who’d pay for THAT?) I mean that I scrimped and saved in 1996 to buy the original Connectix QuickCam, and have tried or purchased just about every webcam there is from the Philips Eggcam to the ViCam/3Com/Watchport V. Microsoft has just released the LifeCam VX-6000 and while it has some nice features, it’s not much to write home about. Automatic face tracking software (yawn), low-light adjustment, and a 1.3 megapixel lens round out the list. If asked I’d still recommend the IONetworks Watchport V as the best low light webcam, and the Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro as the best all around webcam.
