In the first of my three-part iPod accessory review extravaganza, I bring you the earBuddy iPod Earbud Case and the PocketDock Combo iPod connector from SendStation. SendStation makes iPod accessories that are tiny but mighty and sent me some delicious samples to play with, as well as the SendStation mascot in handy refigerator magnet form. He’s been harassing the other magnets on my kitchen fridge with his loud punk rock music and wild dancing, but what can you do?
What’s in the Box?
earBuddy comes with one iPod headphone case and a code for one free song on iTunes. The PocketDock is all WYSIWYG. (What you see is what you get.)
What’s Good About It?
Quite simply, the earBuddy keeps your standard iPod headphones safe and wrapped up nice and tight. Each earBuddy is made from ballistic nylon and the ABS reel inside is perfectly designed to hold your headphones with no wasted space. earBuddy can withstand up to 200 lbs of crushing brute force, and withstands abuse well while attached to your keychain, jacket, or backpack.
A Perfect Fit
The PocketDock Combo allows you to use any standard USB or Firewire cable to dock your iPod to your PC or Mac. I was able to connect the PocketDock to all my iPods without any problems and iTunes was able to detect them.
What Could Be Improved?
The earBuddy comes with a keychain ring but I found it more handy to use a mini-caribiner clip to hook my earBuddy to my briefcase. It would be nice if it came with one, but this is a minor complaint. The PocketDock combo has a connection for the the larger USB hub cable – I would have preferred it use the mini-USB cable that most cameras and self-powered external hard drives use.
