Remember a few years ago when MP3 playback capability started to appear in every gadget imaginable? We predict there’s a new trend brewing: Personal Video Recorders. The oddly named Aiptek PocketDV MPVR 2K6, also known as the Aiptek PocketDV 6800 is here to prove it. This 7-in-1 multifunction unit is a digital camcorder, Portable Media Player & Recorder, still camera, MP3 player, voice recorder, webcam, and USB drive. The AV-in port on this bad boy allows you to record from any video source including TV, satellite, VCR, DVD, you name it! The 2.4 inch TFT LCD swivels 270° and turns the unit on and off, which I really like. The CMOS sensor is 3MP and actually takes decent photos. I happened to come across this camera in Target yesterday and found it on sale for $98. Want to see a sample photo?

I’ve resized the original to fit on the page – I was impressed with the quality from this Aiptek. I’ve owned the Aiptek DVII, PocketCamX, and IS-DV cameras and this camera outshines Aiptek’s previous offerings.
Aiptek’s cameras are typically a “jack of many trades” and master of none, and this camera is no different. It’s perfect for someone looking for a multi-function device that shoots pictures, video, and can record from video sources. The Aiptek MPVR 2K6 uses SD memory for expansion and can handle cards up to 2GB in size. As far as PVR goes, you can store about an hour per GB in VGA mode and double that in QVGA mode. As previously mentioned, flipping the LCD screen out turns it on and about 3 seconds later you’re ready to shoot photos or video. (Sadly, the PVR only records audio in mono.)
Aiptek makes great tinycams, and so far I’m really pleased with this one. The PVR craze is upon us, and I expect it won’t be long until every device imaginable has some form of DVR capability.
I haven’t covered all the features of this camera, so if you have questions please comment and I will respond. Interestingly enough, I can’t find mention of this great camera on either Target or Amazon, but will add links as soon as they appear.
UPDATE: I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the TV-out feature of this camera. This means you can play your recorded videos, photos, or PVR content back on your TV screen as well as save them on your PC!

Watching a movie on the MPVR recorded from VCR tape. You can flip the screen and set the unit on its side, and it sits upright but at a slight angle for optimum viewing. Can you guess which movie from the screenshot?

I am looking for the battery charger for this camera. My brother recently passed and left this camera for me but my sister, not knowing what she was looking at, threw the battery charger away. Where can I get one and another battery for a spare?

If you plug your cam(IN) into your dvd player as well as your Xbox(OUT)(AV IN/OUT)it will record your xbox during gameplay.
You can use a USB/USB port to charge your camera any time you want.
