Review: Authentic Bennett Robot Works Sculpture: Gadget
On his website, Gorden Bennett of Bennet Robot Works says he creates robotic sculptures from a “mixture of found objects which are both old and new.” This is a gross understatement – this is like saying Mark Tilden creates robotic toys that are kinda cool. The robotic sculptures Gordon Bennett creates are nothing short of stellar, remarkable, and incredible. A few months ago I asked Gordon if he would be interested in creating a mascot for GadgetMadness, and he indicated that he would. Readers, meet “Gadget,” our new mascot – robot sculpture #62 from Bennett Robot Works!

What’s in the Box?

One extremely well-packed piece of robotic art, complete with certificate of ownership.

What’s Good About It?

Each robot from BRW is stamped and numbered with a metal tag of authenticity. Remember that these are not toys, and should not be played with as such. Our robot, “Gadget” is extremely sturdy and well-constructed. One might think that being made from “found objects” could mean the robot would be dirty or junky, and this is quite simply not the case. “Gadget” is bright and shiny, and looks like he is ready for some mecha-action! You’ve probably also noticed he sports the GadgetMadness logo – Gordon did a fantastic job matching the shape of our logo as well as constructing the center gear with an actual gear part!

What Could Be Improved?

Quite simply, nothing. There is nothing else out there like a Gordon Bennett original robot. Each of his creations are truly one-of-a-kind and each robot takes months to build. While the price tag may scare many casual buyers away, I can’t think of a better present for the geeky executive or vice-president whose favorite movie as a kid was “Forbidden Planet.”

GadgetMadness Verdict:

“I’ll bet any quantum mechanic in the service would give the rest of his life to fool around with this gadget.”

Quinn, “Forbidden Planet”

Definitely not fine art for the serious collector…Somehow I can picture the son or daughter of snotty faux intellectual opening a box containing this “robot” on Christmas Day and bursting into tears. Save your money and buy a deluxe box of tinker toys instead.
