Appleseed Anime DVD Review

“Better stop, or my boyfriend will punch a hole right though you.”

Bad ass battle chicks, ESWAT mech-suits, and guns, guns, BIG guns. If these words spark your interest, then consider picking up a copy of the new Appleseed anime on DVD. The CG animation of Appleseed maintains a traditional anime style and yet is sometimes photorealistic, which is facinating and fun to watch. In 2131, humanity co-exists with a humanoid race known as “bioroids,” and they live together in a domed city that shields both from the harsh war-ravaged world outside. Some humans hate the symbiotic relationship they share with the bioroids, and it is obvious that someone is up to no good when a key bioroid facility is destroyed by “landmates” of unknown origin. I remember watching the original “Appleseed” on VHS in 1992, and this new version totally kicks its sorry ass up and down the futuristic block. If a decent story, lots of explosions, “Matrix-style” battle sequences and guns guns guns are your thing, Appleseed will not disappoint. My 15-year-old niece describes Appleseed as “the best anime I’ve ever seen.” Being the sci-fi action junkie Uncle I am, I totally agree.
