Sony PSP Hard to Find: 1GB Memory Stick Duo Even Harder

Ed Steele March 28, 2005 0

Think you are having a hard time finding a PSP? Just try tracking down a 1.0GB Memory Stick Duo card for it…here is a list of places we have confirmed are out or don’t carry it:
Places We Physically Checked
Best Buy: Out of Stock
Circuit City: Out of Stock
Staples: Don”t Carry (512MB/1GB)
Super Target: Don’t Carry
CompUSA: Out of Stock
Wolf Camera/Wolf ULTRA: have 512MB Duo
EB World: Out of Stock
Office MAX: have 512MB Duo
Wal-Mart: Don’t Carry (512MB/1GB)
Costco: Don’t Carry (512MB/1GB)
Online Stores We Checked
MacMall.com: Out of Stock
CDW.com: Out of Stock
JandRComputers.com: Out of Stock
CompGeeks.com: Out of Stock
Egghead.com: Out of Stock

There may be a few stores here and there we forgot to list, but put simply this is the accessory we didn’t forsee being a huge seller. Of the stores we physically went to, the PSP and all accessories were sold out too. This leads us to two conclusions:
1) The PSP sold out most everywhere (clarification: everywhere we shopped today, and everywhere we can find online) with very little pre-launch marketing. Some “critics” complained that Sony did little to promote the PSP prior to launch, to which we answer “they didn’t need to.”
2) 1GB and 512GB memory sticks are sold out most everywhere too. If you are looking for one, prepare to wait for a big memory stick. If you see one, snag it, (and send it to me!)
Seriously, if anyone does know where to get their hands on 1GB Duo sticks (other than eBay) please post to the comments for this article. We’re probably not the only ones who want to know.
