We hope you took our advice two months ago and pre-ordered your PSP early (I’m number four on the list at my store.) The official date and price for the PSP was released this week and the 1st million of us who buy a PSP get Spiderman 2 the movie on UMD disc, nice touch Sony. We’re really interested in the games though, and IGN has a list of the 20 plus games avaliable on PSP Day. Out of the ones listed, if my bank account can withstand it I will be getting Ape Escape, ATV Offroad, Dynasty Warriors, Metal Gear Acid, Ridge Racer, Twisted Metal, and Wipeout. What PSP games do you plan to buy on March 24th? Tell us in the comments section!

I jsut ordered mine the other day when I heard of the official release. What sold me was the UMD of Spider-man 2. What about playing movies on it from say a pre-recorded source like a Sony digi-cam or camcorder? I would imagine you would need an external UMD recorder (unless there is a neat undisclosed trick that the PSP is also a UMD recorder) and that device would prob cost $200! Otherwise I guess you can record and watch a movie or Mp3 on the MS-duo ?

I wonder how hard it is to port ps2 games to psp? Maybe it is easy, which would explain the huge number of games on launch day…

You are right – there is software from Sony that will let you encode your own movies (and MP3’s) for viewing on your PSP. UMD recording will be available to UMD media publishers only – no way Sony will ever let those be available to the public.

What would be the balls is a Quake3 or halflife or whatever, I wonder if its powerful enough?

Probably not powerful enough to handle those games and look like they do on the PC, remember it is (for the most part) a handheld PS2, at least that’s what the trade rags are claiming. From looking at the quality of the graphics I would tend to agree. What is missing though, as you point out, is a FPS at launch! Doh!

Ok koo, it’s been driving me crazy. One is a next-gen handheld entertainment device, and the other is a dirt bike. What’s the punch line here?
