Playstation developers hooked on Fonix?
The Fonix VoiceIn voice recognition and command system for the Playstation 2 and PC gives game developers a new way to incorporate speech into games. VoiceIn is touted as the most memory efficient voice interface that can recognize single words and grammar in speech commands, which enables developers to create more immersive gaming experiences.
The most innovative use of voice technology I’ve seen in a console system was in Seaman for the Sega Dreamcast. For those not familiar, Seaman was a virtual fish with a man’s head that you could converse with. All I know is I’ve never been as creeped as I was the time Seaman asked if I was at home by myself because he wanted to ask me a “personal question.”
