Call me the ugly American, but I took pictures of the toilets when I went to Tokyo a couple years ago. They’re just so hi-tech and efficient and different there. That, and I’m easily impressed and don’t get out much.
According to this Dottocomu story, Toto, Japan’s leading high-tech toilet maker has just released a new model that will do the normal stuff like sense your presence and departure to flush automatically, but since that requires power, this one has a hydroelectic generator that charges its own battery when it flushes. The battery life is reported to be a decade.
Oh, and “it’ll also take a guess at what variety of waste you’ve just put into it and flush the appropriate amount of water in response“.
