The Baja Beach Club, described as one of Barcelona’s hottest night spots, has come up with a new, hip, cool way of identifying its VIP customers. How does the idea of a subcutaneous RFID chip sound? Scares the crap out of me, but some Barcelonians (Barcelonites? Barceleenies?) have decided to jump to the front of the “sell your soul here” line for the sake of convenience and cool. I just don’t get people.

I would probably take advantage of this system if I lived in Barcelona and attended the club regularly. I’d rather wait a few years, for other people to test the possible unforseen dangers. Infection? Wireless identity theft? Technical failures?
But once these issues are worked out, if ever, I would have no problem being implanted. Assuming it was inexpensive, I’d enjoy the convenience.
But then again, I think Kevin Warwick’s work is fascinating. So perhaps I’m a bit biased…
