Two Japanese companies have announced a navigation system for 3G GPS phones with the ability to show a radar-like display of close friends and points of interest. The display switches to a wireframe mode, similar to the old Battlezone game, when you get within 50 meters of your destination. Via Dottocomu

    3d Navigation

    Sure, once in a while when I travel, I’d get good use out of this sort of thing, but mostly, I think it’d only be used for the “wow, that’s so cool!” factor. Nice to see the envelope of possibilities…
